First time in Fiji: what people wish they had known

A collection of things travellers tell us after the fact.

**Distances are longer than the map suggests.** Nadi to Suva is four hours on a good day, not the two you might estimate.

**The islands are a commitment.** A day trip to the Mamanucas eats the whole day. That is fine, as long as you planned for it.

**Sunday is quiet.** Many businesses close and villages go to church. Plan a beach day.

**Cash still matters.** Plenty of smaller operators, markets and village visits are cash only.

**Sevusevu is real.** If you visit a village you may be invited to present kava. It is a genuine courtesy, not a tourist performance.
