<p>Today is <strong>Airplanes Day at FijiDude.com</strong>, and we are handing out some very enthusiastic love to the airlines that keep Fiji and Australia connected.</p>
<p>We love Fiji Airways. We love good old Jetstar. But today?</p>
<p><strong>Virgin Australia wins.</strong></p>
<p>Why? Because when Fiji's aviation-fuel situation became complicated, Virgin and the wider aviation family did what good travel people do: they adapted, kept safety first and worked hard to keep passengers moving.</p>
<h2>A fuel problem—but not the end of the holiday</h2>
<p>In August 2026, Nadi International Airport faced a temporary shortage of usable aviation fuel after a delivered batch did not meet the required standard. Nadi remained open and operational, but airlines could not rely on their usual refuelling arrangements.</p>
<p>That is a serious logistical puzzle. An aircraft cannot simply pull into the nearest roadside servo and ask someone to check the oil.</p>
<p>The answer was smart cooperation and a little aviation ingenuity. Airlines carried extra fuel into Fiji from Australia—a practice known as <strong>tankering</strong>—while some services used larger aircraft or made technical refuelling stops in places such as Nouméa or Port Vila. Fiji Airports coordinated contingency planning with airlines, suppliers and ground handlers while protecting safe airport operations.</p>
<p>There were delays and some cancellations, and we know that is never fun when you are holding a boarding pass and dreaming of home—or of your first swim in Fiji. But the bigger picture deserves a cheer: Fiji stayed connected, safety remained the priority and the teams on both sides of the Pacific kept looking for ways to make the journey work.</p>
<h2>Why Virgin gets today's flower lei</h2>
<p>Virgin Australia did more than fly an aeroplane from one runway to another. Its people had to reshape operations around a fast-moving fuel problem while caring for guests whose plans suddenly changed.</p>
