About this experience

Savusavu Bay grows pearls, and the water is warm enough in places to cook your lunch in. This half day takes in both. At J. Hunter Pearls you get the story of how Fijian cultured pearls came to exist — they are found nowhere else — then head out over the farm in a glass-bottomed boat to watch the oysters being tended, cleaned and, if you time it for April, May, October or November, seeded and harvested. There's a tasting of pearl oyster, which is a genuinely odd and good thing, and a showroom afterwards if you're tempted. Then into town for the Nakama hot springs, where the water comes out of the ground at close to boiling and locals still cook in the steam, and out along Lesiaceva Road to Split Rock, a coral head you can snorkel straight off the shore.

Price on request. The operator and the tourism association publish different figures. We will confirm the fare in writing before you pay anything.

Cancellation. Please cancel at least 48 hours before departure; the pearl farm tour requires a minimum of four guests and may be rescheduled if numbers aren't met. *Note to FijiDude: the minimum-4 rule is real. Either guarantee departures and carry the risk, or say it plainly at booking.*
