Suva City & Fiji Museum — Guided Day in the Capital (50 chars)
Guided day in Fiji's capital: the Fiji Museum's 3,700-year collection, Suva market, Albert Park and the harbour front. (117 chars)
About this experience
Most visitors to Fiji never see Suva, which is a shame, because it is where the country actually happens. Colonial verandahs and government buildings, a covered market piled with dalo, kava root and things you will not recognise, and Thurston Gardens sitting green in the middle of it. Inside those gardens is the Fiji Museum: 3,700 years of history in one building, with masi cloth, war clubs, and the enormous drua sailing canoe that stops everybody in the doorway. We take the guided entry ticket, so you get a curator's walk-through rather than a wander past labels. Then the market, Albert Park, the harbour front, and time to actually stand still somewhere. Suva is a working capital, so dress a little more conservatively than you would at the resort — shoulders and knees. And note that on Sundays the city largely closes.
