About this experience

Twenty minutes by boat from Barefoot Kuata sits Moia Reef, where whitetip and blacktip reef sharks patrol in four to six metres of clear water. You don't dive down. You float on the surface with a mask and snorkel, guides in the water beside you the whole time, and watch them work the reef below. The resort typically sees between six and twelve sharks on a trip, though they're wild animals and nothing is promised. Whitetips here reach about 1.8 metres, blacktips 1.6 — big enough to make your heart go, small enough that nobody's nervous for long. The day trip runs from Port Denarau with hotel coach pickup, ferry both ways, buffet lunch on the island, and kayaks and paddleboards for the afternoon. Buoyancy aids are on hand if you'd rather not rely on your own swimming.

Cancellation. On the South Sea Cruises departure a 100% cancellation fee applies within 24 hours of the booked departure time or for a no-show; if weather stops the trip you'll be offered an alternative cruise or a refund no greater than the fare paid.
