Waitavala Waterslide & the 180th Meridian, Taveuni

Two things happen on this half day, and both are the kind of thing you only get on Taveuni. The first is Waitavala, where a creek has spent a few thousand years polishing a chute of rock smooth, and local kids have turned it into the best waterslide in Fiji. You sit down, you let go, and you arrive in the pool at the bottom rather faster than you expected. It is completely natural, completely free, and completely unsupervised — go with someone who knows the line. The second is the 180th Meridian, which runs straight through the middle of the island, marked by a signpost at Waiyevo. Stand with one foot either side and you are technically in two days at once. The tour usually takes in Wairiki Catholic Mission Church on the way, which is worth the stop on its own.

Free to visit. There is no entry fee. If a village levy is collected on the day, it is paid locally.

Cancellation. Cancel up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund; the sites themselves are free public access. *Note to FijiDude: disclose plainly that the slide is unsupervised, that the rock scrapes, and that flow is unsafe after heavy rain. This is the objection that generates complaints if you hide it.*
