Lavena Coastal Walk: Taveuni's Wild Southeast Coast
Taveuni's #1 rated walk. 5km of wild coastline from Lavena Village to Wainibau Falls, with river crossings and a swim-in gorge at the end. *(142 chars)*
About this experience
This is the walk everyone on Taveuni tells you to do, and they are right. It starts at Lavena Village at the very end of the east coast road and follows five kilometres of coastline that no road reaches — black sand beaches, coconut groves, forest that comes right down to the water, and not another soul most days. Halfway along there are river crossings with ropes strung across them to hang onto, which is more fun than it sounds. The reward at the end is Wainibau Falls, tucked into a narrow gorge you have to swim the last stretch to reach. Allow the best part of a day if you want to do it at a Fijian pace with swimming stops. Village guides can be hired at the lodge and are worth it, and there's a boat option if you'd rather walk one way and ride back.
Cancellation. Guided tours can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund; trail entry is paid in cash at Lavena Lodge on the day and is non-refundable.
