Rainbow Reef & the Great White Wall — Two-Tank Dive, Taveuni

The Great White Wall is the dive people plan whole trips around. You drop through a lava tube in the Somosomo Strait and come out onto a vertical face carpeted in pale soft coral that falls away past 100 metres — in the right light it genuinely looks like snow. Taveuni Ocean Sports run it as a two-tank morning, about four hours all up, two dives of roughly 45 minutes at 12 to 30 metres, with snacks, drinks and a hot shower on the surface interval. Their briefings are unusually good: site maps, marine biology, fish and coral identification. One thing worth knowing before you book — the strait is a drift, and the current is gentlest around the half moon, strongest at full and new.
