You do not need to change islands to see the good stuff. Some of Fiji's best days out leave Denarau in the morning and have you back for dinner.
Mana Island
The full-day classic: a catamaran across the Mamanucas, a beach that looks unreasonable in photographs, and reef a short swim from shore. Good for mixed groups because you can snorkel hard or do nothing at all. See the day cruise.
The floating platforms
Two of Fiji's most photographed days out are not islands at all. Cloud 9 is a two-storey platform moored over the reef serving wood-fired pizza, while Seventh Heaven leans younger with waterslides. Pick by the crowd you want, not the photos — they are both excellent, and quite different.
A private island day
If the appeal is space rather than facilities, a private island day cruise trades waterslides for quiet. Check the guest numbers when you book — that is what separates a genuinely quiet day from a busy one.
Go small instead
The big catamarans are efficient but they all stop in the same places. A local water taxi or charter gets you to reefs the day-trip boats skip, with a skipper who actually knows them. If you only do one water day, this is often the one people talk about afterwards.
Practical notes
- Boats leave on time. Arrive at the marina early — traffic from Nadi can be slower than you expect.
- Take reef-safe sunscreen and a rash vest; you will be in the sun for hours.
- Most trips include lunch, but check whether drinks are extra.
